Privately owned Italian company - very design-led (they have worked with architects on appliance design).

Famous for the stylishly curved, retro fridges and fridge-freezers in the FAB range ... and also steel range cookers like the Opera range (the first industrially styled range cookers to become popular). They were also in the forefront of multi-function oven design.

Very trendy a few years ago - the name SMEG is often thought to be a clever marketing choice - but it is in fact just the initials which (in Italian) stand for "metal enamelling fatory in Gustallia" 

Smeg also have a less expensive appliance range called "Cucina" (including range cookers and built-in appliances) which is often used by developers and builders in new properties ... but is also available in retail outlets. It doesn't have the same stylish detailing as the main range.

Great appliances to choose for stylish looks - not absolutely top of the range as far as quality goes.
