This is a book about local fruit and particularly veg, cooked when it's in season. Riverford Farm is one of the largest veggie box providers in the country and Guy Watson tells you why he grows certain vegetables and how to store them. He's quite passionate about growing food organically and reducing food miles.
Jane Baxter provides the recipes and very good they look too. They're not all vegetarian either. I love the sound of "Twice Cooked Belly Pork with Spring Onions and Ginger" ... and "Beetroot Hater's Soup" could have been aimed at me personally.
Recipes for unusual veg - that you'll find in a good quality veggie box - are to be found alongside imaginative uses for more common or garden veg, like potatoes, cauliflower, onion and sprouts ... often with an international twist on the ingredients. There are also tips on how to use those leftover bits at the bottom of the fridge.
