Personalise Your Fridge-Freezer

I know a lot of you already have fridge-magnets, pictures by your kids and all sorts of other stuff stuck onto the fridge door ... but how about a posh alternative?

Maytag's MSS 20 TBB14, side by side, fridge-freezer has doors designed to take decor panels, with a trim kit around the perimeter of each of the three door panels. It comes with gloss black panels fitted but, as long as it's 6mm thick and of the right size, you could put any panel you like in there.

It's not a brand new idea; some Amana fridge-freezers (now owned by Maytag) have always had the option of decor panels ... but it was usually so that you could make the doors match your kitchen furniture:

The doors in the picture look a bit naff - because they don't match the furniture doors - they haven't got panels - but I can remember, in the  past, specifying that 6mm thick ledges were to be rebated into the edges of bespoke doors. The idea has sort of gone out of fashion, because customers have recently preferred their big, American style fridge-freezers to be in stainless steel or black, and make a bold statement.

GE had a similar idea; teaming up with Parapan - was it last year? - to provide the option of different coloured panels in the doors of their American fridge-freezers.

Maytag have obviously re-visited the idea - perhaps because of the current popularity of patterns - and it does seem like a good way of introducing some added interest to the kitchen.

A Maytag fridge-freezer is not going to be cheap - I couldn't find a price for this new one - but it is going to be good. This model is A+ rated for energy, frost free, and has five adjustable temperature zones for storing different food types. The ice and water dispenser has an integral water filter (with change indicator) and the air is also filtered, to remove microorganisms and reduce mould growth and smells in your stored food. It's also super fast at restoring the desired temperatures, after you've had the door open.
