An independent source of kitchen design advice & ideas
Majjie's original Kitchen Design Guide was launched in 2007 and was a massive 174 page single volume, covering advice on where to buy your kitchen, what styles and qualities of kitchen were available, how to plan the layout yourself and designer tips on how to make the kitchen look good.
Re-writing the Design Guide has proved to be a massive task - which somehow never got finished - because Majjie was always busy with designing kitchens - and writing articles for Majjie's Kitchen Corner over on Yell.com's Know How site. Most of those Yell.com articles are linked into our Kitchen Buyers Guide section here.
Part 1 of the new guide "Before You Start" ... has been finished for some time and is available FREE as Majjie's Kitchen Buying Guide. It asks if you really need a new kitchen and where you should put it ... and then describes what you get for your money - when you buy a kitchen - and the different sorts of kitchens available. Well - after all this time - there has been a development.
Majjie has stopped writing for Yell.com (they're no longer supporting their Know How sections) and, instead, has been asked to write a book by Ovolo - publishers of "The Housebuilder's Bible".
The deal isn't finalised yet - but publication target is December 2012 ... so keep watching this space and we'll let you know what happens!
The proposed chapters are:
Chapter 1 - Before You Start (as the Kitchen Buying Guide above). Do you need a new kitchen, where should you put it and where does your money go
Chapter 2 - Kitchen Units - types of carcasses and doors (expanded from the Kitchen Buying Guide)
Chapter 3
... Appliances and Cookware detailing suppliers and manufacturers, as well as types and models of appliance ... and even looks briefly at types of pans.
Chapter 4 ... All About Worktops ... are all laminates the same? Is wood impractical? Is granite the best worktop to have? Worktops play a very dominant part in any new kitchen.
Chapter 5 ... Kitchen Planning ... the nitty gritty of what to put where and why
Chapter 6 ... Kitchen Design... general principles of how to make the unit arrangement look good
Chapter7 ... Interior Design for Kitchens ... What styles of kitchen are there? And as all interior designers (and viewers of makeover shows) know ... the finishing touches are all important for the overall look and for achieving that "wow!" factor.
Chapter 8 ... Just for Small (and Tiny) Kitchens ... because having a website has shown us that a lot of people are searching for ideas for small kitchens
Chapter 9 ... Thinking About the Environment ... which has become much more important (or at least more prominent) since 2007
Chapter 10 ... UK Kitchen Buying Guide ... where to buy a kitchen and how to pay for it
