Majjie's original Kitchen Design Guide was launched in 2007 and was a massive 174 page single volume, covering advice on where to buy your kitchen, what styles and qualities of kitchen were available, how to plan the layout yourself and designer tips on how to make the kitchen look good.

The original guide is currently being updated and divided into six separate guides. That way you only need buy the sections which interest you. If you already know you'll be having a good quality laminate worktop, perhaps you don't need the guide to worktops. If you've already decided on a supplier and just want advice on the plan and the appliances, start with Guides 2 and 4 ... and see how you get on. The new guides are as follows:

Guide 1 ... Before You Start ... is free and is already available. It tells you all you need to know, before you decide what sort of kitchen to buy, and it helps you decide where to put it, in your house (if you have a choice). It even covers whether or not you really need a new kitchen.

If you decide that a new kitchen is right for you, then this guide covers the different types of units and doors that are available and also looks at the other factors which affect the price of your new kitchen. This isn't a superficial look at a few branded kitchens, either. It covers everything from cheap laminate doors made from chipboard, to the varieties of high gloss doors available, to the things to look out for in a bespoke, hand-made kitchen, made in an inset-framed style.

Guide 2 ... Appliances and Cookware details suppliers and manufacturers, as well as types and models of appliance ... and even looks briefly at types of pans. This is an expanded version of the previous Chapter 3.

Guide 3 ... All About Worktops ... are all laminates the same? Is wood impractical? Is granite the best worktop to have? Worktops play a very dominant part in any new kitchen.

Guide 4 ... Kitchen Planning and Design ... the nitty gritty of what to put where and why and how to make the unit arrangement look good

Guide 5 ... Interior Design for Kitchens ... as all interior designers (and viewers of makeover shows) know ... the finishing touches are all important for the overall look and for achieving that "wow!" factor.

Guide 6 ... UK Kitchen Buying Guide ... tells you about UK kitchen suppliers, how to choose where to buy your kitchen and how to pay for it
