 If you've had a look at the Kitchen Buyers Guide section on this website, you'll already have some idea as to why independent kitchen design might be desirable ... but here are ten good reasons to use our design services:

An independent kitchen designer:

1. works for you, not the kitchen supplier
2. can provide you with a plan to study at your leisure and will make alterations to the plan, based on your feedback
3. can provide a plan and a specification to take to suppliers for quotes (on a strictly like-for-like basis)
4. does not pressurise you to buy his, or her, or any, kitchen
5. can advise what sort of kitchen supplier to approach
6. will have links with cabinetmakers, if you want a really special kitchen (like the one pictured above)
7. is likely to be an experienced designer, able to come up with more imaginative designs
8. can work with any budget and any supplier, from the bottom of the market, to the top
9. is interested in the overall kitchen, including appliances and accessories ... and isn't just focussed on getting you to buy their units
10. can help you design your own kitchen

Not everyone should use an independent kitchen designer ... there aren't enough of us to go round, for a start ... but have a look at the following list of people who might want to do so.

Consider Using an Independent Designer if:

• your kitchen is a particularly awkward shape
• your kitchen is very large
• you have been very unimpressed by the "free" designs available from your local kitchen suppliers
• your kitchen supplier provides CAD pictures of the kitchen area only - in a large open plan room
• you are having a new house or extension built and want to explore different possibilities for the kitchen before the building work starts (kitchen suppliers are often reluctant to work on the design when a sale isn't imminent!)
• you want a bespoke kitchen design tailored for you (rather than pre-designed units just made to fit your space)
• you have a cabinetmaker or joiner to make your kitchen ... but they're not clued up on kitchen appliances or worktops or modern kitchen design
• you hate the sales pressure and follow up calls you'll get from designers who must sell kitchens to survive
• you want to use a kitchen supplier that doesn't provide a design service (and has lower prices as a result)
• you want help to design your own kitchen

What We Don't Do ...

I'm afraid we don't project manage your kitchen installation. That only really works on a local basis with someone who can pop in and check on progress. If you don't feel up to project managing the job yourself, then find a kitchen showroom, a fitter, or a builder, who will do the job for you. If they offer project management then they will already know local electricians, plumbers, plasterers and tilers - as well as kitchen fitters (if it's a showroom or a builder) - that they have worked with before.

We don't supply electrical drawings/diagrams. Some upmarket kitchen companies offer this service - but we reckon it's best sorted out by your fitter and your electrician. They're the ones who really know what they're doing.  We may make some suggestions for the positioning of sockets but all electricians have to be qualified these days and they're the best ones to advise you. Supplying extra drawings would also be very time consuming and we don't want to put our prices up. It's all very well for those posh kitchen companies - the designers there are probably making thousands of pounds in commission for each kitchen - and then there's the profit on the kitchen sale. They can afford to provide all those extras - you're certainly paying for them.

We don't price your kitchen design. Sorry - but it would just take too long. We can often get a quote for you, though ... depending on exactly what sort of kitchen you want. We don't price the kitchen, but we do need to know what sort of budget you have in mind - because that affects the type of units and appliances we will recommend for the kitchen. 

We don't sell kitchens.  I know that's been mentioned elsewhere but it's probably worth repeating. We can often recommend what sort of kitchen to buy but we don't supply kitchens ourselves - and don't receive any profit on sales. We charge a fee for coming up with a design, for illustrating that design and tweaking it to your satisfaction. We try to keep that fee as low as possible ... so that it's affordable even for inexpensive kitchens. The standard of designs you get from the kitchen suppliers - who DO want to sell you a kitchen - is very variable and sometimes very poor. We're here to provide a practical alternative just for the design of your kitchen ... to make sure the layout and appliances and worktop are all exactly what you want ... or to make suggestions if you're not sure.
