This is a picture taken on New Year's Day 2009, on a walk around the banks of Derwent Water in Cumbria. It was a very cold day and a lot of the water was still frozen but it was also a beautiful, sunny day. An unusual combination.
The picture for Winter Swamp has been digitally enhanced. No colour has been added ... but the colours already there have been heightened. The extra colour emphasises the contrast between the sunshine and the frozen ice of the swampy water.
It's an unusual picture but we love it. Some of you, who've had Marion come round to your house, will recognise that she uses this picture as wallpaper on her laptop. The enhanced colours are reminiscent of that back lit effect.
The illustrations include a picture of the actual canvas and show how the picture has been continued over the sides of the canvas - as a mirror image, rather than a continuation of the picture - that way none of the photo was lost.
The size of the canvas is: 610w x 460h x 44d (in mm)
