Stools

Stools

This is one piece of furniture that can be fitted into almost any kitchen. Even tiny kitchens can often accomodate just one stool for perching on ... you can sit down to study your recipe or the newspaper ... and have a quick cup of coffee.

There are three seating heights that you're likely to find in a kitchen; table height, worktop height and bar height. Short stools can be used at table height, especially for kids, but normally you'd sit on chairs at a table.

Be careful if you want to sit at your normal kitchen worktop ... because true bar stools will be too high. They're designed for pub bars ... and for those raised worktop areas you sometimes see in kitchens, at the rear of a standard worktop stretch.

OK, these stools might stretch the budget a bit ... but they're great. They have a gas lift, adjustable height mechanism ... with a minimum height just low enough to be used at a table and a maximum height suitable for a tall bar ... and they look great.

Great for a modern kitchen, this bar stool has a slimline, curved, brown leather seat - adjustable with a gas pump action. The chrome finished base and column are very striking. A group of these stools would be a feature in themselves. They're exclusive to John Lewis.

Stools without backs are good if you're a bit short on space around your seating area. When you're not using them, they can be pushed under the worktop overhang, out of the way. These Z-shaped stools make a bit of a statement and would always look smart.
