Tables

TablesThere are an increasing number of kitchens, these days, which include a dining area. Some of these are huge and fitting in a table is no problem, others are a bit smaller and it can be a struggle to fit the table in. Sometimes a breakfast bar area ... in a fixed position ... can be the answer. It can enable you to squeeze in a couple of stools for perching, even in quite small kitchens. It's always more comfortable to sit on a chair though - if you're sitting for long periods of time. And a table is more versatile in that you can have it pushed against the wall for everyday use ... but bring it out into the centre of the room when you need to seat more people. Or you can have an extending table. The size and shape of the table can be crucial to making your kitchen design work, so ... if you need to entertain in your kitchen ... have a good look round at what's available. Here are some tables that Majjie likes.

This is a great table for a small kitchen - especially if you love 1950's style. It definitely has a modern feel to it, though. Recreated for John Lewis by Ercol - from one of their original designs, this table comes in solid oak or painted ash (white or black).

Supplier: CookInStyle  Guide price: £1,399.99 (currently free delivery)

This is the table for you, if you want to make a real statement, in a modern kitchen. The reason it's a table with a difference, though, is that it's at worktop height ... so, if you're going to sit at it, I'd recommend adjustable height stools. It would perhaps be best for kitchens where you also have a separate dining room, with a table at a more conventional height.

Round tables which extend to oval ones are even more useful than plain round tables. It means that you can seat a few extra guests if you need to, even if it's a bit of a squeeze ... then, once they're gone you can have your little round table back.

Another great table for a small kitchen. It's just under 4 foot long - extending to just under 5 foot - and it's only just over 2 foot 6 inches wide. The top is made from oak veneer, and the painted parts are made from rubberwood, keeping the price right down to affordable levels.

For the slightly larger kitchen, this is a very good looking, solid oak table - with a chunky look. The grain pattern of the solid oak planks has been cleverly used to give a patterned surface.
