Bright fruit colours are less startling to us than bright vegetables, they're often out on display in a fruit bowl - but we wanted to include one set of proper fruits, so here they are - a good mix of red and orange, with just a touch of green - in apples, strawberries and oranges.

It might be stretching a point to call the mushrooms here orange, but they definitely have an orangey brown hue, whilst the squash is a delicate orange and the peppers are the real McCoy. Orange is a colour that needs to be used with care but it's a great accent colour - to add zing to the kitchen.

There's a definite hint of maroon and dark red, in our purple theme vegetables, but we reckon they go well together and blending related colours adds subtlety to a colour scheme. Here we have turnips, red cabbage and red onions.

These pictures are for those who love red - possibly the most dramatic accent colour you can choose. And yes - I know that tomatoes and peppers are technically fruits - but we tend to cook them as veg, so that's what they're called here.

Actually, these vegetables are not completely white, of course, but the creamy white of the interiors adds a freshness to the pictures and to the other colours; the greens and the browns. We have cauliflower, mushrooms and onions.
