Did you work on the house or garden over the Easter weekend?

Adding that bit about the garden gives me an excuse to add some spring pictures from my garden (yes ... I've been gardening ... just look at the new stain on that shed!):

Welcome to Our New Website

I fondly imagine that lots of you have been on tenterhooks waiting for this new site ... and here it is! (Don't ruin my fantasy).

The site isn't finished but I think there's enough here to make it useful for those of you who are interested in kitchens, are planning to have a new kitchen in the future, or are about to go out and buy one.

Fancy a Pink Cooker?

Well, technically the colour is called Pomegranate ... it's been introduced by Stoves for their modern looking Sterling range cooker ... in the "Flavours" colour series.

Coconut (white) and Jalapeno (dark red) are also available ... but that pink is lovely!

Get Britain Building

The troubles in the kitchen industry are partly due to people putting off big ticket purchases ... like kitchens! It's also partly due to the decline in the construction industry and the fact that people aren't buying new houses or moving house. Obviously, both of those are sources of new business for kitchen companies.

I just wanted to mention a new consortium ... set up on 10th February ... called Get Britain Building.

Giants of the Industry in Trouble

I tweeted about the doom and gloom in the industry, earlier in the week and since then have heard that upmarket Crabtree Kitchens (based in Bristol and London - with an average kitchen price of around £40,000) has gone into administration. So has high profile Kitchen Clinic (based in Battersea and Shepherd's Bush).

New Induction Hobs

AEG have introduced two new induction hobs which they call MaxiSense. They're smart, touch control models with bevelled edges - making them very inconspicuous when fitted into a dark worktop.

The Competence 78001 KF model has four sections and is slightly larger than a standard hob at 710mm wide.

Low Kitchen Window Cills

A few people seem to have been asking, recently, about how to design a kitchen around a low window cill (or is it sill?).

A lot of flats converted from older houses have very tall sash windows ... which start below worktop height ... and you can get the same problem with barn conversions, and extensions onto older properties, where the roof height is restricted or where the window needs to line up with an existing one.

TIMBER WORKTOPS Part 3: Environmental Considerations

I've finally got round to writing the third part of this blog on timber worktops ... looking at the environmental issues. Apologies for the delay, if any of you were waiting with bated breath.

The Demise of Corgi

Did you know that the Corgi registration scheme, for gas fitters and installers, is coming to an end on 1st April 2009?

In spite of the date, it doesn't appear to be a joke. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has taken the contract away from Corgi and awarded it to Capita. No I hadn't heard of them either.

Have You Heard of Wordles?

They're sort of word art, presented as on-screen pictures. You can create your own by pasting in text ... or you can enter your blog url (as long as it has an RSS feed) and your wordle will be created automatically. This is the automatic wordle from Majjie's Blog:
