What's New in Range Cookers?

One of the main features of the enduringly trendy range cooker is that it is free standing and not fitted into the kitchen furniture ... right?

Well, no ... wrong actually ... if the two new offerings from Rangemaster and Britannia are anything to go by.

Rangemaster call theirs a built-in range cooker, whereas Britannia categorise theirs firmly as a twin built-in oven. Do have a look at them if you like the idea ... but also consider simply building in two single built-under ovens, side by side (if you've got the space) - you may get more flexibility that way.

Britannia have also launched a new 1100mm size to their XG range of range cookers (there really isn't any other way to say that!). They have previously concentrated on 900, 1000 and 1200mm widths (and even 1500mm for the seriously big cooks amongst you) but have obviously been missing out on the replacement market for people who are changing from their original 1100mm range cookers.

Rangemaster meanwhile have upgraded their Professional stainless steel cooker, which was beginning to look a bit dated. It has new handles, square porthole doors to see how things are cooking and a one piece six burner hotplate. It's a big improvement and will be available next month (or so they say!).

Rangemaster also have a useful list of Farmers Markets on their web site - in case you feel like buying some good wholesome food to cook on your range cooker and don't know where to get it.
