With Christmas in mind (although also suitable all year round), I thought I'd make some helpful suggestions for kitchen related gifts and no ... you didn't read that wrong ... it does say compost bin!
It's obvious when you think about it. Most of us don't buy compost bins for ourselves ... and yet they're so handy. I still use a plastic bag myself, in spite of saying some time ago, that I was going to buy a bin. A compost bin is also something that everybody uses (if they've got a garden). Even those who aren't keen cooks will peel an orange, or cut outer leaves off a lettuce ... or discard a tea bag.
For the light user of a compost bin - for the interior design orientated recipient - or (let's admit it) for the girls! How about a red tomato compost crock (it has a capacity of 4 litres):
Or, if that wouldn't suit their colour scheme - or you want something just a little bit smaller - what about the green apple compost crock, holding just 3.3 litres (they're both £19.99):
For the more high tech kitchen (or friend) this Deluxe Compost Pail - in polished steel - makes a bold statement (it's £24.99 and holds 4.4 litres):
Or if you want something that will fit into any kitchen decor ... modern or traditional ... something your granny might like too ... what about this little cream compost bucket with shiny chrome handles (for £17.99):

For the more robust composter ... friends who eat a lot of veg ... or those who have a family ... how about a larger compost bucket. It's not as pretty as some but it holds 10 litres; is not unattractive; and it's very fit for purpose (costing £24.99):
And finally for those with a more scientific bent ... or to encourage teenagers to get interested ... for the man in your life ... or the friend who already has everything (including a normal compost bin) ... the Bokashi Kitchen Composter is the one to buy.

For £40, you get a two bin kit with a 3-4 month supply of Bokashi bran and "effective micro-organisms". This one is for all the food that shouldn't go in the normal compost bin - like meat and fish and cheese (the things that get smelly and attract vermin). Mmm ... lovely gift!
