The troubles in the kitchen industry are partly due to people putting off big ticket purchases ... like kitchens! It's also partly due to the decline in the construction industry and the fact that people aren't buying new houses or moving house. Obviously, both of those are sources of new business for kitchen companies.

I just wanted to mention a new consortium ... set up on 10th February ... called Get Britain Building.

It's being supported by various construction industry bodies and related trades and businesses ... as well as a cross party group of MPs.

They're not asking for government hand outs, but they do have a ten point plan to encourage more construction activity ... including a reduction of VAT to 5% for all building maintenance and repair work; graduated stamp duty; encouraging the building of social housing; a timetable for government investment in schools and hospitals; and encouragment of responsible lending.
