Even More Reasons to Have a Quooker

It's over two years since I said I wanted a Quooker ... I've moved house since then ... and I still haven't got one. I don't have any plans to change my kitchen in the near future ... but if you're changing yours, have a look at the new Quooker Combi.

The original Quooker is a boiling water tap. It heats the water to 110 degrees C ... so that the water dispensed is actually at 100 degrees. The new Quooker Combi is more versatile ... it also connects to your existing (or new) hot water tap and dispenses instant hot water (50 to 65 degrees C) to your sink.

That means you save on :

  • time - no waiting around for your boiler to heat the water up
  • energy - the Quooker is very well insulated and energy efficient, and
  • water - how many gallons are usually wasted, whilst we wait for the hot water to get hot?

Quooker have obviously been working on their marketing over the past two years as well. They've got some great demo videos on their website ... of all the different uses for the hot water from the boiling water tap ... including the ones that impressed me before, like rinsing greasy pans, filling pasta pans, peeling tomatoes, making up baby formula and sterilising teats.

There are four styles of boiling water tap to choose from (which also come in a range of finishes):

So, although the boiling water tap is a modern concept (when it comes to domestic kitchens, rather than commercial premises), you can get a tap that will match even traditional bib pillar taps:

The Quooker was always slightly more expensive than hot water taps from Franke and ISE. It retails at around £800 - the exact price depending on the tap style and finish. Some people didn't think the extra was worth paying - just to have the water temperature a few degrees higher - at boiling point (not tea drinkers I suppose!).

The Quooker Combi is even more expensive, at just over £1,000 ... but I reckon the extra might be worth paying ... for the instant hot water to your normal tap. You might even find some introductory offers, if you shop around.
